Seven Ingredients of Awakening: the Power of Investigation; a Friday Evening Talk and Saturday Morning Half Day Retreat

In our spiritual journey, seven ingredients are considered essential for the
development of the awakened heart and mind. These factors are mindfulness,
investigation, energy, joyous interest, tranquility, concentration, and
equanimity. These qualities are both the fuel for our journey and the
fruits of our practice. Together they balance the heart and mind and prime
them for the deepest kind of happiness.

This month we explore the power of investigation. What does investigation mean in a Buddhist meditation context? Using the jewel of mindfulness, we move closer to and more intimate with our experiences of mind heart and body. As we investigate in our own experience the essential truths of this life, we see and understand more clearly “the way things are,” how we create suffering, and how we free the mind and heart.

Friday evening will include meditation, a dharma talk on the second factor of awakening, investigation: what it is and how to strengthen it in our practice. There will also be time for questions and answers.
Saturday morning will include meditation practice with specific guidance on investigation, a dharma talk about what we learn about the nature of reality through the power of investigation, and time for discussion.
